It’s that time of year again, the beginning at the end. Time to make new resolutions and celebrate the New Year. I find myself reflecting today, on New Year’s past, resolutions made and broken and the habit of spending every New Year’s Eve somewhere new, with different people.
In years past I’ve spent the hours ringing in the New Year with friends, lovers, or family. This year looks to be no different and for that I believe I am grateful. Not everyone feels the need to be a social as me and I doubt many other share my belief that, at least to a small extent, how you spend the New Year is likely a forecast to how the rest of your year will go. This year I intend to spend it with a few friends, having a few drinks and hopefully a lot of fun. For me, I hope this will be a forecast for a year filled with new friendships, lots of laughter and a move away from my recent stint as a hermit.
As to resolutions, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t going to make them, but this year I’m going to be a little more real.
Resolution one: Take my own advice. In everything. Seriously.
Resolution two: have more adventures.
That’s it, that simple. Or maybe that complex. But this year I’d like to not over complicate them by making grand pronouncement – the “this year I will lose weight!” or “this year I will finally go to the island!” – I want this year to be free and open, to be whatever I am able to make it without the fear or failure.
Anyways, I hope that everyone out there, and everyone reading this, has the best New Year. I hope you’re able to make it a night to remember and a grand start to a new year. Here’s to 2014!
